About Michelle Black, M.Ed
President
SimplyRead Communications Group
Since 1994, I have added the value of plain language and clear design to communications projects in all of the
private, public and not-for-profit sectors. In 2002, I co-chaired the
Plain Language Association
International (PLAIN)'s successful conference in Toronto.
With an M.Ed in workplace learning and years of experience teaching and facilitating, I have taught hundreds of people to write more clearly. I also speak
French and Spanish, which helps me to understand the needs of second-language learners and more ably manage translation projects.
I believe that clear information is an important way to help people make sense of their world - and that this helps them make better decisions which can
improve their lives.
Trust me and SimplyRead to help you ensure that your information is clear and understood.

My main area of expertise is in developing clear, usable information for diverse audiences - from
low-literacy to very specialized readers. With SimplyRead, I specialize in helping organizations clearly communicate
with their employees, customers and communities.
As a customer service professional and telemarketing manager in the early 90's, I was frustrated with the amount of
confusing, misleading information out there. A literacy volunteer with a language degree, I became aware of the
movement for plain language and clear design - and decided to become part of it.
